Treatment Process

The treatment process consists of several components: a first interview, the imaging, the treatment planning, the actual precision radiation, and routine follow-up examination.

Treatment example (video animation)

This video annimation shows a Cyberknife treatment of a tumor of the cervical spine.

The first step is the automatic positioning of the treatment coutch for the starting position. The digital imaging system is checking the position of the spine in regular steps throughout the whole treatment (comparison DRR – live image). Changes in position up to 10 mm are automatically corrected by the robot. Target positioning is defined via localization of the bony parts of the spine.

The described process will guarantee the highest possible accuracy throughout the treatment. The robot is able to send his beams from up to 1200 positions which makes it possible to treat also very irregulary shaped lesions in critical locations. Treatment time is about 1.5 hours.
